In 2010, the dream came crashing down as Nevin was wrongfully forced to plead guilty to securities fraud and money laundering. Nevin served 10 years in federal prison before being sent to home confinement under the First Step Act for 4 ½ more years. Nevin received clemency in December of 2024, beginning the next chapter of his life. Nevin’s incarceration has opened his eyes to the absolute necessity of prison reform.
He witnessed the impact of the inhumane conditions and neglect firsthand. His primary goals are as follows; to improve the rehabilitation and reentry process for inmates. The greatest problem with recidivism is that inmates, after being punished and serving their time behind bars, continue to be punished and have no chance to re-integrate into society with any kind of normalcy or dignity.
Nevin credits the support and advocacy of the Tzedek Association with his survival during his incarceration and recent release from Bureau of Prisons custody. The Tzedek Association is an organization dedicated to bipartisan criminal justice reforms, providing humanitarian aid globally, and defending religious liberty for all. It was the relentless work behind the scenes by the Tzedek Association that helped push through the bipartisan bill in 2018 called the First Step Act, one of the most meaningful criminal justice reforms in history. Tzedek continues to work and advocate for the rights of the accused and incarcerated and to reform the criminal justice system. Nevin is dedicated to supporting the Tzedek and this cause.
